How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions required varies depending on your condition and individual progress. Your level of health, age and stress all have a bearing on how fast your body will heal and in turn how many treatments you will need.

We give self-care advice and often recommend exercises or lifestyle changes to speed recovery and maintain improved health.

What can I expect when I visit an osteopath?

An initial consultation at an osteopath typically involves the following steps:

Case History

  • The osteopath will begin by asking detailed questions about your medical history, lifestyle, and any specific symptoms or concerns.
  • They may inquire about past injuries, surgeries, medications, or conditions that could affect your treatment.

Discussion of Your Concerns

  • You’ll have the opportunity to explain your current issue, such as pain, stiffness, or mobility problems. The osteopath will listen carefully to understand how it impacts your daily life.

Physical Examination

  • With your consent, the osteopath will assess your posture, range of motion, and any areas of pain or discomfort.
  • This may involve asking you to perform simple movements while they observe and gently palpate (examine by touch) the affected areas.
  • It may be neccessary for you to remove some clothing to allow the osteopath to see and palpate the areas of concern. Please bring/wear some shorts and a T-shirt or some tight fitting clothing. This will enable the osteopath to work effectively without you feeling uncomfortable.

Diagnosis

  • Based on your history and the physical examination, the osteopath will provide a diagnosis or an explanation of what might be causing your symptoms.
  • They may discuss how osteopathy could help and outline a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Treatment

  • If appropriate, treatment may begin during the first session. This could include hands-on techniques such as stretching, joint manipulation, or soft tissue massage.
  • The osteopath will explain what they are doing and ensure you are comfortable throughout.

Advice and Recommendations

  • You may receive advice on exercises, stretches, or lifestyle changes to support your recovery and prevent future issues.
  • In some cases, the osteopath may recommend further investigations (e.g., X-rays or scans) or refer you to another healthcare professional, if necessary.

Time for Questions

  • You will have the chance to ask any questions and discuss any concerns about your condition or treatment plan.

The consultation typically lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. The goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of your condition and a personalised approach to improving your health and well-being.

What a saviour Tom has been for me to continue with my fitness regime. Tom is a golden find. I highly recommend him. He's my new go to for my back and neck. Excellent take-home preventative advice. Thank you.

"Tom is an incredible Osteopath who I would recommend to anyone with any problems. He treats you with so much care and empathy, asking thorough questions to get a picture of your overall health, exactly how osteopathy should be. I was impressed with the amount of knowledge he had on my condition and he knew exactly how to treat me, it was refreshing as usually I have to educate healthcare professionals on what's suitable for me. After one appointment I feel so much better and any future issues I will always go to him. I highly recommend!"
